Reader’s Question:

I have a car that I wont be using and my mother would like to use it. Im still paying for the vehicle. My question is, can she put an insurance in the vehicle? I live in PA and she lives in Alabama. Is it possible?

Thank you for asking Ray

If you want your father to insure your car, you will need to check with your vehicle’s lienholder to make verify if they will approve it. After that you will need to check with Pennsylvania and Alabama to see how their rules will apply to your situation. Then, you will need to find an insurance provider that will meet your car insurance needs. If your father is able to insure your car, he may have a hard time finding an insurance company that will permit him to insure your car. Usually, insurance carriers do not allow individuals to insure vehicles in which they have no insurable interest.

Goodluck!
