Reader’s Question:

I got a speeding ticket when I was in Florida. I have an Alabama license. I just want to know if this will be reported back in Alabama?

Felice

Thank you for asking Felice.

Alabama and Florida are both members of the Drivers License Compact. This means that the Florida courts will inform Alabama of your out of state speeding offense. Once the Alabama Department of Public Safety receives this information they will likely place the offense on your AL driving record.

You will need to verify with the Alabama Department of Public Safety to find out if points will be assessed regarding the speeding ticket offense. If they said it will be assessed then it should be only the 2 points listed on the AL driver license points system for “speeding in excess of posted limits” not the 4 points that Florida would assign to this offense.

Goodluck!
