The penalties for a first time conviction of a DUI or DWI in Alabama is a fine of $600 to $2,100, up to one year in jail or by both fine and imprisonment. Plus the person’s driver’s license will be suspended for 90 days.
Other than the penalties listed above, those convicted of Driving under the Influence in Alabama are also required to carry an SR-22 insurance and attend and complete a DUI or substance abuse program.
Under normal circumstances in Alabama the SR2-2 will be required to be maintained for a period of three years. But, the DPS should inform you how long you will actually be required to file SR22. You may contact the Alabama Department of Public Safety to find out for sure how long you will be required to hold a SR-22 if you have been convicted of a DUI/DWI violation.
