Restricted Drivers License With DUI in Alabama

Reader’s Question:

I currently have restricted driver’s license in Alabama due to a prior DUI but at one point in Birmingham. I was driving outside my restrictions. I crashed my car due to a road hazard and given that my insurance policy is current, I am still anxious that my insurance will not pay for damages even though I was not driving to or from work which is what’s mandated by my restricted license provisions.

The insurance company’s provisions and/or exclusions will determine if this is covered under your policy. Exclusions on a Personal Auto Policy can be different for every carries and state, so you better review your policy:

Some typical exclusion follows:
-committing a high misdemeanor or felony, or seeking to avoid lawful apprehension or arrest by a police officer; or
-acting with specific intent to cause injury or damage to himself or others;
-operating or “occupying” an “auto” without the permission of the owner of the “auto” or name insured under the policy insuring that “auto”.
-War (declared or undeclared);
-Civil war;
-Insurrection;
-Rebellion or revolution;
-Any act or condition incident to any of the above resulting from radioactive, toxic, explosive, or other hazardous properties of nuclear material.
-and other specified on each policy…

Based on the typical exclusions listed, it seems like you will have coverage afforded unless there are other exclusions listed on your policy.

SR22 Auto Insurance With Military Discount

Q: I’m in the army and will be deploying to Iraq soon. Is there some way I can save money on my SR22 insurance insurance? Is there a military discount?

A: Depending on which car insurance company you buy your SR22 insurance proof, there are a lot of ways for a member of the US army to save money on their car insurance. Many companies offer a military discount, which is available to both active and retired members of the military. Geico, which began as a car insurance company solely for American government employees, has one of the most generous of these discounts at 15%.

Geico also works with soldiers who are being deployed abroad. You can file your SR22 insurance proof and keep only comprehensive coverage on your vehicle while it’s in storage and you’re away in Iraq. Also, since Iraq is considered dangerous territory, you’ll also have another 25% knocked off of your car insurance premium because you are in area which gives you hostile fire pay. In the end, the amount that you will actually be paying to keep your car safe in storage while you’re off in Iraq will barely be mentionable.
