Reader’s Question:

I got involved in a minor accident without auto insurance in. I’m afraid it was my fault but since I didn’t have any auto insurance and it was just really minor accident I didn’t stop. What should I be expecting after this?

The minimum auto insurance requirements in Alabama is of 20/40/10. This stands for liability limits of $20,000 for the bodily injury coverage for one person, $40,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident and $10,000 for the property damage coverage.

The penalty for drivers found driving without auto insurance in Alabama can vary but range typically from a $500 fine and potential license suspension for the first offense up to a $1,000 fine and license revocation for multiple offenses. It looks like you also did not stop after the accident which this could be considered a hit and run and could come with stiff penalties of its own if the other motorist got your license plate and reported it to the authorities.

You should get auto insurance on your car before driving anymore on the roads of Alabama.
