Your car insurance company will only look at it for five years, though. In some cases, you may be able to get an offense taken off of your record if you take a defensive driving course, although you will have to talk to a judge to find out if this is possible in your case.
Other than that, you just need to stay out of trouble. Go ahead and take a defensive driving course anyway, add safety features to your car, always drive within the speed limit, and try to avoid getting tickets. Do everything you can to make yourself look more responsible, both in driving and in general, to your DWI SR22 insurance company.
