SR22 auto insurance certificate

Q: If I just have a little fender bender with another car, would it be a good idea for me to not file a claim since I have SR22 auto insurance certificate and they might cancel me?

A: Having your SR22 auto insurance certificate cancelled is stressful, but you shouldn’t just act like it’s a piece of paper and not use it for what insurance is actually for. Remember they can’t just drop your insurance like that–they have to give you a warning, so if you file a claim and they cancel because of it, you’ll have time to get a policy with a new insurance company.

Also, it’s never a good idea to avoid filing a claim on your SR22 auto insurance certificate policy, even if you only barely bumped into another car. I say this because you never know how far the damges will actually go. It may seem like nothing, but you or the other driver may wake up the next day with unexpected injuries, such as back pains, which you didn’t notice at first. You may take your car to the shop to be repaired and find out the estimate is far above what you would have expected. Also, if you pay another driver so they can get their car fixed, you can’t be sure that they won’t call your car insurance company and file a claim anyway.
